I am so inspired by Fall to keep creating more and more mindfulness activities for you. So how about a Fall-inspired version of "Pebble Meditation"? It's a great way to add some mindfulness to any of your Fall themes this season and offers a way to revisit "Pebble Meditation" in a fresh, new way.
More about that in a bit. First, if you aren't already familiar with "Pebble Meditation", I copied some background info below from another "Pebble Meditation" post I wrote a while back.
pebble meditation
Pebble Meditation was created by Thich Nhat Hanh, a great teacher of peace. He created it as a way for children to learn about certain abstract qualities by attaching these qualities to real and familiar objects like pebbles.
Each of the four pebbles in the meditation represents an object and its qualities. Pebble Meditation reminds us that we already have these special qualities within us, and that as we practice this meditation, these qualities will grow even stronger. It also reminds us that no one can ever take any of these qualities away from us. They are ours to keep, forever.
In the traditional version, the four pebbles represents:
- The first pebble represents a flower and the qualities of love, beauty, and curiosity.
- The second pebble represents a mountain and the qualities of bravery, strength, and confidence.
- The third pebble represents still water and the qualities of quiet, calm, and focused.
- The fourth pebble represents the sky (space) and the qualities of freedom, happiness, and peace.
You can read more about Pebble Meditation in Thich Nhat Hanh’s book, "A Handful of Quiet: Happiness in Four Pebbles". (As an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases.)

pebble meditation for fall
I have adapted the original version of "Pebble Meditation" so you can add it easily into any Fall theme you might be doing in preschool this season. It would be perfect for a general Fall theme, Fall leaves theme, apples, pumpkins, harvest, etc. It will work.
Here is what my new Fall-inspired version looks like:
- The first pebble represents a colorful, Fall leaf and the qualities of love and beauty.
- The second pebble represents a pumpkin and the qualities of fun and playful.
- The third pebble represents a cornucopia and the qualities of abundance and fullness.
- The fourth pebble represents an apple and the qualities of health and happiness.
